Welcome to the study "Need Satisfaction in Everyday Work."
Dear Participant, thank you for your interest in our online study, which is conducted by the Department for Work and Organizational Psychology at LMU Munich.
Study Procedure
This study takes place over 5 consecutive days. Study participation takes about 10-15 minutes each day. On the first and the last day, it might take slightly longer (15-20 minutes). In total, the study takes less than 1.5 hours.
It is important that you complete the study at approximately the same time each day. The study link remains the same throughout all five days. Your individual Participant ID will be assigned in the next step. Please complete the study on a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet rather than on a smartphone, as the study is not optimized for smaller screens.
Each day, you will be presented with a typical work task from a department within a fictional company. You will be asked to complete these tasks using background information and an integrated AI tool. Afterwards, you will answer several questions about your experience while completing the tasks. Your performance on the tasks is less important than your personal experience during the tasks.
Eligibility
You can participate in this study if you are at least 18 years old and have a good command of German or English. In addition, you should be able to set aside approximately 15 minutes each day over the next five consecutive days to complete the study.
Your Reward
At the end of the study, you will have the opportunity to receive personalized feedback on your psychological need profile. In addition, we will provide practical tips on how to better satisfy your psychological needs at work and support your long-term well-being. Students at LMU Munich can also receive 1.5 participant credit hours for completing the study. To receive credit, please start the study via the SONA platform: https://lmu-psy.sona-systems.com/default.aspx?p_return_experiment_id=775.

Data Protection Information according to Article 13 EU-GDPR
Thank you for your interest in our study "Need Satisfaction in the Workplace". Below, you will find information about the research project, the conditions for participation, and how your data will be collected and processed. Please read this information carefully. If you agree to participate in the study, please confirm your consent below.
General Information about the Study
This study is part of a research project conducted by the Department of Work and Organizational Psychology at LMU Munich. The study investigates psychological need satisfaction in everyday work. This online study will take approximately 1.5 hours over the course of 5 days. Participation is open only to individuals aged 18 or older. As a thank you for taking part, you will have the opportunity to receive personalized feedback on your psychological need profile, along with practical tips on how to better satisfy your psychological needs. Psychology students at LMU Munich can also receive 1.5 participant credit hours for their participation.
Voluntary Participation
Your participation in this research project is voluntary. You may withdraw your consent to participate at any time and without providing a reason, without experiencing any disadvantages as a result. Even if you discontinue the study prematurely, you may still be entitled to compensation for the time you have spent participating up to that point, provided that this time can be clearly verified (e.g., in laboratory studies). For online studies, this is generally not possible.
Data Protection and Anonymity
Personal data collected as part of this research project (e.g., age or gender) will be used exclusively for the scientific investigation of demographic influences and for describing the study sample. All subsequent analyses will be conducted using an anonymized dataset. It will no longer be possible for us to identify you from the data. The data will be analyzed using group-level statistics (or population estimates). Individual measurements are not relevant to our research questions.
As part of this study, you will interact with an AI chatbot. This chatbot is based on the language model "Claude Sonnet 4.5" by Anthropic. Conversations with the AI chatbot will be stored on a server in Germany. Please do not enter any personally identifying or other sensitive information into the text fields.
The link between your identity and your data for the creation of your psychological need profile is established through your Participant ID. This ID is used solely to assign your need profile to you. Your email address will not be stored and will only be used to send you your need profile. Participant IDs will also be replaced with randomly generated numerical codes for data analysis, ensuring it is no longer possible to trace the data back to you.
Use of the Data
The results of this study may be published for teaching and research purposes (e.g., in theses, scientific publications, or conference presentations). This will be done in an anonymized form, meaning that the data cannot be linked to any specific individual. The fully anonymized data may be made available as open data in an internet-based repository, in accordance with the recommendations of the German Research Foundation (DFG) regarding quality assurance, transparency, and reproducibility of scientific findings.
Legal Basis and Withdrawal of Consent
The legal basis for processing the personal data described above is your consent in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) of the EU-GDPR. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. You may request the deletion of your data at any time by contacting the person responsible for conducting the study. Withdrawing your consent will not result in any disadvantages for you.

For these tasks, you will have access to background information about the department as well as your company's AI chatbot.
Please complete all questions before continuing.
